A different kind of Charoset
This year’s Passover recipe is my own version of my mother’s recipe. It is always enthusiastically received by everyone (to a degree that the Seder is slightly disturbed by the loud compliments). People often tell me it’s the best one they ever had. If you’d like similar compliments and a new experience, try it out:
Ingredients:
- One part raisins
- One part chopped pitted dates
- One part dry roasted (unsalted) almonds
- One part walnuts
- Two parts grape juice (or sweet red wine, for “adult” Charoset)
Process:
Soak raisins and chopped pitted dates in grape juice for eight hours.
Place almonds and walnuts in a food processor. Add plumped raisins and dates from marinade and grind, adding a little of the grape juice if needed, until you get a a crunchy, muddy-looking “dough.”
Options:
Feel free to modify the recipe by adding other dry fruit (a touch of pineapple adds a nice zesty twist) or other nuts (pecans, hazelnuts and roasted chestnuts worked great for me).

Nissan 5765 Specials & News
April 10, 2005- May 9, 2005

In my family, Passover is the most important of all the Jewish holidays. With its formidable quantities of relatives and of food, the Pesach Seder is always the pinnacle of our year.
This coming Passover is going to be especially exciting for me because I’ll be celebrating it in Israel in my aunt’s back yard, with about 100 of my (closest) family members. The gifts I’ll be bringing will be a Photo Quilt (see photos at http://www.judaicartkits.com/specials.htm) for my parents and an ancient prayer booklet I’ve reprinted, at my grandfather’s request, with a copy to be given to each of his descendants (about 200 and counting).
After almost five years of not seeing my family, this Passover is certainly going to be the belly-filling, cheek-pinching highlight of my year.

CAJE for FREE!
The people who use our programs are our best advertisement. That’s why we always staff our booth at the CAJE conference with educators. This year is no exception: if you’re an outgoing and friendly educator who likes talking to strangers and who’s been using our programs for the past three years, drop us a line! We’ll invite two lucky people to come join us in our booth at CAJE Seattle (August 15-18).
If you take us up on this offer, Judaic Art Kits will cover your conference fee (a $750-$915 value) and up to $300 towards your transportation to and from the conference. In return, you will staff our booth for 7 hours a day from Monday through Thursday (total of 28 hours). Duties will include setup and breakdown of displays and interacting with conference attendees about our programs.
If you have not registered for the conference yet and are interested in this offer, please call Yorron at 585-202-9939 ASAP.

My, how the time flies! We’ll be celebrating our 10-year anniversary this August, during the CAJE 30th annual conference in Seattle. But you don’t have to wait until August to celebrate with us: in honor of our birthday, we’ll be offering 10% off discounts with every e-Newsletter from now until August.
This month’s discount: 10% off all Glitter Spray bottles. Available in five sparkling colors, these are a great addition to any Siddur Cover (and the upcoming Mizrah and Tzedakah Angel) workshops.

Website of the Month
One of the gifts I'll be bringing with me to Israel is a Mezuzah Case for my brother and his family (wife, two kids, and one on the way). The Case (see photos at http://www.judaicartkits.com/specials.htm) was created by the talented Shoshanna Rosenthal of ShoshannaArt.com. Shoshanna custom designs Judaica sculptures based on family photos. Using colored clay, she creates life-like figurines of your loved ones and then turns them into Mezuzah Cases, Hanukkah Menorot, and even cake toppers. It took a couple months to get my Mezuzah Case, but it was definitely worth the wait!

May this Holiday of Freedom be a liberating experience to you and your loved ones.
