In the compass of Judaism, Jerusalem is the direction we orient ourselves and pray towards. Since most Jews in the diaspora used to live west of Jerusalem, the eastern walls of Jewish homes and synagogues were decorated with a Mizrah ("east") or Shiviti wall hangings. Although originally intended to aid family members and visitors identify the direction of prayer, the Mizrah wall hanging, like the Mezuzah Cases, is now becoming a recognized symbol of a Jewish home.
As with all our Geffen Path programs,
this Siddur Cover program is also comprised of three components. Click on each of these three icons to learn about each component.
