It was the custom of
Jews in Germanic lands to form a scarf from the wrap worn by
the infant during circumcision. The scarf, decorated by the child's family,
was inscribed with a blessing and used as a personalized Torah Binder for
the child's Bar Mitzvah and Wedding celebrations. This tradition, which was almost lost
during the Holocaust, is now enjoying a strong revival. Our Wimpel Kits, inspired
by an 18th century Italian design, includes a long narrow scarf with reinforced
pointed edges and satin ties. Today, Wimpels are also created in honor
of a child's consecration and/or Bar/Bat-Mitzvah celebrations. Therefore, we now
offer two different Wimpel programs, one with a blessing honoring the child's birth,
and the other honoring the child's Bar/Bat-Mitzvah.
